WebCars! The Corvette Story

The 2006 Z06 was substantially different from its coupe and convertible stable-mates. An aluminum body structure with one-piece hydroformed perimeter rails frame and magnesium front cradle that carried the engine and part of the front suspension provided the basis for a very competent high performance car.

The 2006 Corvette Z06 chassis. Like the C5 (and most of the C2) Z06 Corvettes, the 2006 Z06 had a fixed roof. Carbon fiber was used in the floor panels (which still had a natural balsa wood core), the front fenders and outer wheelhousings.

Z06 Identity Cues

Above: Although the body shape was mostly the same as the LS2 equipped convertible and coupe, there were differences. Larger wheels (+1" in the front, +2" at the rear) and tires required fender flaring resulting in a body wider by 3" in front and almost 4" in the back. To save weight, less sound deadening was installed and the rear hatch pulldown and passenger power seat adjustment was sacrificed. Final weight was 3,132 lbs.

Left: Functional rear brake cooling scoop. Middle: Cold air induction opening at the nose feeds the engine air intake and allows easy id of the Z06 status. Right: An aerodynamic aid called "Gurney lips" in honor of driving legend Dan Gurney is part of the lower front bodywork.

It never hurts to have more power at your feet, especially when it’s a 2006 Corvette at your feet. So check out Corvette Guys for all your needs.

Right: Distinctive 10 spoke star shaped wheels are a Z06 exclusive and measure 18" x 9.5" in front and 19" x 12" at the rear. The design left plenty of opportunity to admire the red six piston, 6 pad brake calipers. Cross drilled rotors are part of the Z06 package and also come with the Performance Package (RPO Z51; $1,895.00) in the coupe and convertible. 2006 Corvette Z06 wheels
